Kick Off 2026 Strong: January Resolution Ride with Pas Normal Studios & Cyclepath PDX

Although we’re still writing this in 2025, it’s never too early to start planning big goals for the year ahead. To kick off 2026, Cyclepath PDX is teaming up with Pas Normal Studios to launch the January Resolution Challenge - a global challenge to ride 1000 kilometers in the month of January, wherever you are in the world.

The challenge is for anyone, from the cold, dark northern countries, enjoying warmer southern hemisphere roads, or even logging miles indoors on the trainer. To get things started here in-town, we’re hosting a ride through Portland’s West Hills, complete with kindly-provided Maurten nutrition to keep you well-fueled.

January Resolution 2026 Kickoff Ride — Portland, OR

Join us on January 11th for a long, steady group ride designed to put a 100km dent in the 1000km January Resolution goal. This ride will explore some of our favorite West Hills routes, combining pavement with some light gravel sections.

The ride will be mostly road, but riders should be prepared for short gravel bits. We recommend 30–40c tires* for the best balance of speed, comfort, and traction.

Please come prepared with enough food, water, and basic repair supplies, as stops will be minimal.

Ride Details

  • Meeting Time: 9:30am

  • Departure Time: 9:45am

  • Meeting Point: Cyclepath NW – 2714 NW Thurman St, Portland

  • Distance: 65 miles (104km)

  • Surface: Mixed road & gravel

  • Recommended Tire Size: 35–40c

Group Paces

We’ll split into two groups to keep riders together during the ride. The "A" group will start first, and the "B" group will follow.

  • A Group: ~20 mph average on flat ground

  • B Group: ~18 mph average on flat ground

The pace will be steady on the flats. Climbs will naturally cause some separation, but ride leaders will wait and regroup at the top. This is not a no-drop ride, so please be sure you have the route loaded and are self-sufficient in case of mechanicals or if the group needs to continue ahead.

Fueling Support from Maurten Nutrition

We’re excited to have Maurten Nutrition providing light fueling support on the ride. Riders will have the opportunity to try Maurten Drink Mix, Gel, and Solid systems.

Maurten’s hydrogel technology allows for high carbohydrate intake while remaining easy on the stomach, making it an ideal choice for long, steady efforts like this West Hills route.

*Tire Recommendations for Portland’s Winter Riding

Portland winter riding brings a mix of wet pavement, debris, possible short gravel sections, and variable conditions. For this ride and other general riding around Portland, it's nice to have something a little wider and with some light tread for all-road or mixed surface riding.

Cyclepath PDX staff favorites for this ride include:

  • Schwalbe G-One RS – A fast-rolling, semi-slick gravel tire ideal for hardpack and pavement

  • Schwalbe Pro One 38c – Supple road performance with added volume for winter conditions

  • Ultradynamico Cava – A versatile all-road tire offering excellent grip and durability on mixed terrain

Looking for a new favorite all-road or light gravel tire? Stop by the shop or check out our tire selection before the ride.
